The Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) core facility is available for use by any researcher at the university whose work requires the manipulation of biological agents that may cause serious or potentially lethal disease as a result of exposure by the inhalation route. The BSL3 Core laboratory functions as a safe working environment for high-risk and high-security microbial pathogens. It is not a fee for service core, but functions instead as a core facility where properly trained users can manipulate various pathogenic microbes under safe conditions, protecting both the user, other university personnel, and the public from harm.
Resource Labs & Facilities
Biomolecular Interaction facility
Our primary service is to provide access to our large, human single-chain Fv antibody library and to perform custom enrichments on user-provided target antigens. We typically generate 3- 10 distinct scFvs against protein targets that can be expressed in E. coli for a variety of applications. We have the capability of also expressing selected scFvs as scFv-Fc in mammalian cells. In addition to phage antibody technology, we can also perform enrichments using peptide libraries.
Pathway Discovery Resource
The Pathway Discovery Resource (PDR) is a high throughput screening facility providing cost effective screening methodologies for cell based assays. Currently, the PDR offers cell based screening with various genetic and chemical tools. The following major equipment is located in the PDR: one Celigo S Cell cytometer, one Perkin Elmer Zephyr compact liquid handling workstation, ThermoFisher MultiDrop, one Envision High Throughput Plate Reader equipped with optics for Fluorescence, Luminescence, Fluorescence Polarization (FP), Time Resolved Fluorescence (TRF), Absorbance, Alpha Screen, and FRET based detection in 96 or 384 well formats, one Janus dual-arm robotic liquid handling system, and one Flexdrop plate filler.
Research Confocal and Conventional Microscopy Core
The Confocal and Conventional Microscopy Resource provides UR Medical Center and UR River Campus researchers access to high-end confocal microscopy, laser capture microdissection, as well as more conventional brightfield and immunofluorescence microscopy. The CCMR provides assistance with all imaging procedures as needed by the investigators. Aid in customizing staining protocols to optimize obtainment of high quality data using Core instruments is also provided.
